Kent v Dorset
Remedy Oak G C

Kent's match away to Dorset was played at Remedy Oak Golf Club hosting their first county match at a course that is becoming viewed as one of England's top inland courses. Cut out of natural woodland in 2005 the course has matured well with separate tree lined holes and many water hazards guarding tee shots and greens. At 7000 yards it demands well placed shot making with the signature hole being the par 3 11th, 218 yards over water with tall pines up the left hand side, water at the front and right and a bunker at the back of the green. A hole with no bail out.

Kent v Surrey
Wildernesse G C

Kent's opening match of 2010 was against Surrey historically the strongest County in the southeast. This year Kent was at home playing at Wildernesse Golf Club which proved an excellent venue both in terms of hospitality and the course. The Surrey side, containing Stiggy Hodgson 2009 Walker Cup, was probably their first pick with Kent fielding three newcomers to first team golf in Jerome Titlow, Matt Cozens and Alfie Plant.

In the opening morning foursomes.....

Kent Colts v Kent Ladies
Littlestone G C

Where do I begin: There goes my 100% record as Colts manager.

I just have to say how impressed I was with Kent Ladies from the moment I arrived at Littlestone, to the way they bonded together as a team at breakfast, to the way they practiced together before the match and the desire and quality of their golf all day. The officials and team were a credit to the County and I would like to wish them well for the rest of the season.

This was a good opportunity for us to play some players who would gain valuable experience for the years to come, the side ......

Kent Seniors v Suffolk
Royal Blackheath G C

The rain held off until the last match was in the clubhouse. The course was playing very long due to the softness of the fairways and the greens had not recovered from the fusarium that had arisen due to the snow covering during the winter. However that did not appear to have much effect allowing for the number of birdies obtained by both sides, fortunately more on the Kent side than Suffolk.

A good day was had by all, and once again the Senior's team were comprehensive winners, hopefully a pointer to the season ahead.

Then back into my managers position and a few early big decisions...Bacon or Sausage, Bacon or Sausage.............. 9 Sausage & Egg Rolls please.

Kent Boys v Middlesex v Essex
Chislehurst Golf Club

Chislehurst GC – Camden Place proved to be an ideal setting for this annual triangular fixture with Essex & Middlesex. All teams were made to feel extremely welcome at this ‘gem’ of a golf course in North Kent, with 8 par 3’s and 2 par 5’s, narrow fairways, overhanging branches and tricky pin positions it was a true test of golf.

KCGU – Region 4 v Region 2
Royal St Georges Golf Club
Thursday 18th February 2010

COURSE CLOSED was the initial greeting on arrival at Royal St Georges Golf Club. The recent snow was still about but that wasn’t the problem it was a white dusting of frost. However with the temperature rising above freezing the frost disappeared and the course was playable for the normal start at 9.30am – thank goodness said some of the lads who had played little or no golf so far this year.

Kent U18’s V Rochester & Cobham GC
on Sunday 7th March @ 11.30am

A bright but very cold and windy day were the conditions for the annual friendly against R&C GC. With a few of the lads away on WWT training it was left to Alfie Plant to captain the U18’s against the usual very strong R&C side. Matt Haines was not available for R&C as he was at the time out in Europe winning the Spanish Amateur.

Kent v Suffolk Felixstowe Ferry

Kent's first friendly in 2010 was away to Suffolk at Felixstowe Ferry which considering the temperature being below zero was very playable. However, with the addition of a 30 mph wind straight off the North Sea, conditions for players and spectators were brutal.
